Sophie Erin Cooper - TBW Drawing Prize-4

A Split Second of Humanity (Phase 2)
2018 - onwards

This piece was selected for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2018, and continues to be exhibited in 2019.

The work consists of dried eucalyptus leaves displayed in a small cabinet. Each leaf has been painted on in white acrylic, showing an intricate pattern devised from patterns found in nature.

A Split Second of Humanity (Phase 2) 2018 - onwards: Project

Our thoughts race by us, fleeting and impermanent, our environments, our moments, all lost to memory; the memories themselves just temporary matter, as we are.

A Split Second of Humanity (Phase 2) simultaneously explores impermanence, our environment and preservation. The fragility of humanity and the natural world colliding to show their intertwining relationship and the impact they can have on one another. The piece acts as a reminder of the way they can both enhance and hinder each other, and an acceptance of the ephemeral quality of everything.
